What the Irish Small Benefit Exemption means for gift vouchers for employees in Ireland
The government in Ireland doubled its Small Benefit Exemption from €500 to €1000 in 2022 – great news for Irish employers, employees and the economy in general. Under this revised scheme, Irish employers can give their staff non-cash benefits or rewards, in the form of gift cards, without the payment of income tax, PRSI and USC.
If employers provide gift vouchers for employees in Ireland they will enable a tax-free boost to income, help increase levels of employee engagement and also alleviate the pressure on the cost of living. Furthermore, those gift cards will be spent in retail, leisure and hospitality businesses, giving a boost to the economy, particularly as most gift card recipients will spend more than the value of the gift card, called upspend.
Gift cards are the ideal non-cash benefit for employees to maximise the opportunity and Diggecard has a wide range of gift cards for the Republic of Ireland to use as rewards, incentives, benefits and promotions to support programmes for employees, customers and members. Covering categories from supermarkets, dining in and out, travel, fashion and clothing, leisure, hobbies, gaming and digital content, homewares, beauty and DIY – all target audiences are covered. Explore the complete brand portfolio and choose to filter by ‘country availability’.

Furthermore, Diggecard has established a strategic partnership with Unique Hampers to create a gift card hub in Kildare, Ireland. Unique Hampers is an established gifting and fulfilment house who also own Christmas2u – Ireland’s Premier Christmas Savings Club. From the hub in Ireland, physical gift cards can be delivered to corporate buyers in bulk to one recipient for onward distribution or sent directly to recipients with a personalised message. A mix of different brands can also be selected in one order and digital services are also available.
The gift card hub in Ireland means Irish businesses can access a wide range of gift card brands with delivery from within Ireland. To order gift cards for your business in Ireland, please contact Diggecard, or our Irish Country Manager, Maria Boyle.
